Hey everyone! My name is Kaylee Strickland and I am the owner and one of the engineers at Back Pocket Recording Studio. Thank you so much for visiting our new site and for your interest in our studio. We are excited to help any and everyone with their goals in any style of music! With this blog I hope to tell my personal story of how Back Pocket Recording Studio came to be, and to continually update it about cool musical things happening within the studio.
If you’d asked me a year ago if I would be where I am, I would’ve laughed and said it was just a dream. I did not have the equipment, the location, and the experience required to be successful on my own. However, as a believer in Jesus Christ, I felt that He was calling me to this business even though I did not have the resources. Today, I can tell you with so much gratitude and joy that the Lord will move mountains for you if He has called you to do something.
Last fall, I heard of a man named Paul Oldack who was selling all of his top-of-the-line recording equipment for an amazing price. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to call him and see how much he was selling everything for and other details concerning it. After talking on the phone with him for quite a while, he was gracious enough to not only sell his equipment to me, but to show me the ropes on everything and be a mentor to me. Paul has been so helpful and is wonderful to work with. He has provided great business advice and is an amazing engineer. He also has a very unique mastering set-up that he has created through his years of experience and I know that anyone who works with him at Back Pocket Recording Studio will have an enjoyable experience.
A few weeks after meeting Paul, my dad and I had been looking in the Plant City area for places to rent. My dad, Jay Strickland, is the owner of B & Jay’s Sign Company, and has also agreed to be my business partner for the studio. Since he already has a successful business, he has a lot of contacts, especially in Plant City and we were hoping to find something quickly. Adam Stine and everyone at Stine Family Partnership were just the people we were looking for, and we found a great space in the Oaks Plaza on Alexander Street.
I feel that it’s really important for me to thank everyone who has poured into and provided for me in this project. Thank you so much to Paul Oldack, for constantly being a helping hand and a wonderful co-worker. Thank you to Sandy Patterson for your incredible work ethic and your unique perspective that keeps our business creative and fresh. Thank you so much to my mom, Allison, for helping me any way possible, from running errands and going with me to the bank to stopping everything and praying with me when life feels overwhelming. Thank you so much Dad for all of your support and for believing in me enough to be my business partner. The time, work and money you have put into this project is such an encouragement to me and I am lucky to have you as my dad. Lastly, thank You Jesus for everything You have done. I don’t deserve the blessing and favor You have given but I will strive to be a good and honest steward of these gifts.
Since acquiring the equipment and place to rent, myself and the other amazing people behind Back Pocket Recording Studio have been renovating and creating a great space for recording all of your projects. We have made every effort to offer affordable and fair prices that can be tailored to meet your individual project’s needs.
We are incredibly excited to work with any artist/musician, and hope that we can help you achieve your goals!
